Frequently asked questions
What is OffReco? +
OffReco is a meeting transcription app for Mac. It detects your meetings, records them, and transcribes them automatically — with speaker labels — once they end. Recording and transcription run entirely on your Mac (locally), and neither your audio nor your transcripts are ever uploaded. It supports a Japanese-tuned model (Kotoba Whisper) and costs first month free, then ¥200/mo (¥2000/yr).
Is there a Mac app that transcribes meetings locally? +
OffReco is one. It records, transcribes, and labels speakers entirely on your Mac instead of uploading to the cloud — transcription even works in Airplane mode. It runs on macOS 14.2+, on both Apple Silicon and Intel.
Is there a meeting-notes app that doesn’t send audio to the cloud? +
OffReco keeps both your audio and transcripts on your Mac — nothing is sent to the cloud. No bot joins the call, so you can record even when you’re not the host. That makes it easy to use within your organization’s rules, even when cloud upload isn’t allowed.
Is my audio really never uploaded? +
Never. Recording, transcription and diarization all happen on your Mac. Transcription even works in Airplane mode. Network use is limited to model downloads and token auth — never your audio or text.
Which meeting / call apps are supported? +
Zoom / Google Meet / Microsoft Teams / Webex / Amazon Chime / Whereby / BlueJeans and more — and because it captures system audio, calls on LINE, Messenger and FaceTime can be transcribed too.
Does a bot join the meeting? +
No. The other side is captured from your Mac’s system audio, so no bot appears in the call. No screen-recording permission either.
Do I need consent to record? +
Please follow the laws and policies that apply to you. Because everything stays local and nothing is uploaded, it’s easy to operate within your organization’s rules.
Where is my data stored? +
In an output folder (default under ~/Documents, changeable) and a temp folder — only on your Mac. You can erase everything anytime with “Factory reset.”
If I cancel, is my data deleted? +
No. Transcripts are files on your Mac, so they remain after you cancel.
Which Macs are supported? +
macOS 14.2+ is required. Apple Silicon recommended (GPU via mlx); Intel supported (CPU via faster-whisper). Universal binary.
Is there a summary feature? +
No built-in summaries. Copy the transcript into ChatGPT or Claude to summarize — you never hand over audio, and you choose which text leaves.
Can I use it for work meetings? +
Yes — local processing with no external transmission makes it suitable even when cloud upload isn’t allowed. Final approval is up to your organization’s policy.
